How to Get Involved
If you fancy joining us for our 60th anniversary season, or you want to see what amateur dramatics in Kingswood is like, the first step is easy. Drop us an email at thekingswoodplayers@gmail.com and one of our committee members will be in touch to say hello and give you all the details.
You can also just come to a rehearsal. We are there on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8pm at The West Hall, rear of Holy Trinity Church, High Street, Kingswood, Bristol, BS15 4AD.
To help cover the costs of our rehearsal spaces, production rights, and group activities, we have a yearly membership fee.
Annual subscription: £75 per year. The committee reviews this each year to keep it as fair and affordable as possible.
You do not pay just to come and meet us. Only until you become involved in a production would we charge. Have a word with a committee member before you pay.
FAQs
Do I need prior acting experience to join?
1
No. We welcome members of all experience levels, whether you last acted at school or you have been doing amateur dramatics for years. Come along to a rehearsal in Kingswood and we will help you find a way in.
Do you need male actors?
Yes. Everyone is welcome, and we are particularly short of men. That includes men who want to act, and men who would rather build the set, run the lights, or help front of house. You will not be the only new person in the room
2
What type of productions do you do?
3
Three a year, at Kingswood Community Centre in Kingswood, Bristol. The season runs from July to the following June.
October is a play: comedy, thriller or a straight drama, sometimes with music and a supper. Our 60th anniversary production is Alan Ayckbourn's Confusions. January is the pantomime, or a family show. Sinbad the Sailor was the January 2026 panto. The May show depends on who is free over the holidays. We have also staged murder mysteries, including A Meal to Die For, and plays written by members of the group.
Where and when do you rehearse?
4
We rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8pm at The West Hall, rear of Holy Trinity Church, High Street, Kingswood, Bristol, BS15 4AD. Kingswood is in South Gloucestershire, on the edge of Bristol.
Are there ways to be involved without acting?
5
Yes. It takes a lot of people to put on a play. If acting is not your thing, we always need help with set building, lighting, sound, costumes, props, prompting, directing and front of house.
Do I have to pay the fee just to try it out?
6
No. The first visit is free. We only ask for the membership fee if you become involved with a production. Ask a committee member to confirm once you are ready to join.
How old do I have to be to join?
7
You can join from 16. There is no upper age limit. The oldest Kingswood Player to tread the boards was 90.
Can I join if I have never been in a drama group?
8
Yes. Most people who get in touch have not done this before. Turn up on a Tuesday or Thursday, tell us your name, and stay for as long as you like. Email us on thekingswoodplayers@gmail.com to let us know you are coming.
When do rehearsals start for the next production?
9
Rehearsals for our October 2026 production of Confusions have finished. Our next production will be a pantomime (Jan 2027) and rehearsals start soon.
You are welcome to come and meet us before then.
